Eclipse of Venus - June
5-6, 2012
First of all, a great big thank you to John Pierce for
providing all of these pictures. The members of the
Santa Cruz Astronomy Club took our telescopes out to the
Santa Cruz lighthouse for the eclipse of Venus on June
5-6, 2012. Venus passes between the Sun and the Earth
twice in an eight year period about every 121.5 years.
The next transit will occur on December 10-11, 2117.
The transit lasted over six hrs. and we had, I'm
guessing about 500+ folks come out to take a look at a
once in a lifetime event. It was a really fun day!
Remember - never look directly at the Sun without a
proper filter!!! |
